Welcome to the Quickening Season!
This is the time of year when the mother feels the movement of the babe inside. For others it is a time to feel the creative juices forming inside. The light is growing with each passing day. The crocus and snow drops are pushing their flowery heads out of the cold hard ground. They are an inspiration to all of us to persevere. Our possibilities are only limited by ourselves.
Here in Florida we are warmer than the rest of the country. Although it is hard to say 49 is warm. The butterflies, for the most part are gone. I did find this chrysalis being guarded by a tiny lizard. If you look closely you can see the white dots on the butterfly wings inside. I also spotted a small butterfly and saw this caterpillar still eating away. I do see signs of Spring’s arrival. Buds are forming on the maple trees. Hopefully Spring will arrive in full force soon.
In March we celebrate women. You will notice this issue has several references to Hypatia, the scholar. Hypatia taught philosophy, mathematics and astronomy. She was a woman a head of her time. Her knowledge and power cause fear in some men’s hearts and she was found guilty of witchcraft and magic. We must take this time to honor all the female scholars in our life.
As I sit here waiting for Spring my friend is waiting for her own arrival. Her daughter Brigid will be making her appearance soon. May she be blessed with good health and long life.
Imbolc Blessings to you all. May the fire of inspiration burn brightly within you. Click to Read the Imbolc 2014 Edition
